Grand Marshal: Roz Brown

The Autoharp has played a major part in my life since I first started playing it in 1975. The folk music of the 1960's had stirred something in my soul and so began my career as a folk musician. I found I could actually play a lot of the folk songs I liked on the Autoharp and accompany my singing. I was not a skilled singer or autoharpist but I was persistent in becoming proficient. I volunteered to play in hospitals and nursing homes and found that folks really enjoyed my music. They did not seem to care if I forgot some words or played a wrong chord on the autoharp. I gained my confidence and started getting paid for my programs. Through the years I have managed to memorize over 400 songs and build my skills as an entertainer. I have developed a wide variety of folk songs and can always find just the right mixture of songs for most types of programs.

A letter from our President:

Welcome to the 49th annual Denver St. Patrick's Day Parade!  Our theme, Forever Green, honors our state's rich heritage and natural beauty and all those folks who serve to protect and honor it.

We are privileged to have Roz Brown as our 2011 Grand Marshal.  Roz is a local entertainer and the longest standing member of the Alpine Rescue Team, a nonprofit search and rescue organization located in Evergreen, Colorado. Roz has been playing folk music and entertaining at festivals around the country since 1975. Every weekend since 1980, he has entertained patrons at the Buckhorn Exchange in Denver, Colorado.  Prairie, cowboy, and traditional songs, in addition to Irish and Scottish tunes and original pieces are the focus of his sets. By adding a bit of history and folklore to his extensive repertoire, Roz's performances become a real educational and entertaining experience.  Please visit his website at http://www.rozbrown.com/

The  Alpine Rescue Team has responded to wilderness emergencies since 1959. They provide free mountain search and rescue, day or night, 24/7, to any individual or agency that may need their expertise and assistance.  They have completed over 400 Mountain Search and Rescue calls in the past five years, averaging 3,000 hours per year in mission man hours.  The Alpine Rescue Team is accredited by the Mountain Rescue Association in Technical Rock Rescue, Winter Technical Rescue, Avalanche Rescue, and Wilderness Search.  Please visit their website: www.alpinerescueteam.org to learn more about this awesome organization.

On behalf of the hundreds of volunteers who work so diligently year round to bring this parade to the streets of LoDo, I am honored to extend an invitation to each one of you to join us in celebration on March 12, 2011!  Denver is home to one of the largest St. Patrick's Day Parades in the nation with 10,000 marchers, over 240 entries, and nearly 250,000 spectators!  I would like to extend a heart felt "thank you" to Bellco Credit Union and all of our other sponsors and advertisers whose financial support allows us to bring this amazing parade to you each year.  Remember, everyone is Irish on St. Patrick's Day!
